The ING NYC Marathon recently posted statistics outlining what takes marathon takes. It reminds me of some statistics I saw years ago about the superbowl… and I guess the NYC Marathon is sort of the superbowl of the marathon world. Here are some highlights:

Financial Impact

  • $250,000,000 total economic impact of ING New York City Marathon 2005 (estimate)
  • $3.5 million fund-raising goal for the New York Road Runners Foundation Team for Kids
  • $32 million total raised by Fred’s Team since 1991 for the Aubrey Fund for Pediatric Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
  • $1,500,000 OnePass miles awarded by Continental Airlines to the first-place and second-place teams in the Mayor’s Cup competition between the New York City Police and Fire Departments
